Just back from our trip digging emeralds in North Carolina, we wanted to do some more rock hunting. Hunting for gemstones seems to be relatively limited here in New York state. We don’t have gemstones like emeralds here, and least not from what I have seem in various books. But we have heard about he Herkimer Diamond mines over in the eastern part of the state. They are not really diamonds, but are quartz. But the quartz crystals can be doubly terminated, and clear as water. They visited a couple of the Herkimer Diamond mines on Cash And Treasures.
I started doing research, and found there are several mines in the area. The best known is the Herkimer Diamond Mines. But in addition, there are also the Ace Of Diamond Mine and the Crystal Grove Diamond Mine. I read reviews, and many people seemed to think Crystal Grove was the best of the three mines. Crystal Grove also has a campground with cabins. They have a pet policy that says we can bring our dog. We didn’t want to have to put our dog back in the kennel this soon after our previous vacation. I asked if we could bring her to the mine area, and they said okay as long as she was on a leash and didn’t bother the other people. Great! So I reserved a cabin.
